“Amazing Grace” is perhaps one of the most covered songs in history.
Whether it’s a choir group or famous singers Dolly Parton and John Legend, the Christian hymn has been performed on countless occasions. Yet, the collaboration between Megan McMorris and rapper Na-G below is unlike anything done before.
McMorris, who goes by the stage name Singing Mommy, recorded the song for her daughter, Louise, who was born with albinism.
“[T]his catchy rendition blends gospel, rap, and country in a beat you’ll find yourself singing again and again for days,” the YouTube video’s caption reads.
Through music, McMorris hopes to bring awareness to the genetic disorder, which affects about 1 in 17,000 people and prevents the body from producing melanin.
Like many other people living with albinism, the 1-year-old suffers from bad vision. Louise also attends weekly therapy at Anchor Center for Blind Children in Denver, CO. All the proceeds from the song will benefit the nonprofit foundation.
“The hardest part for me is not being able to make eye contact with my daughter,” McMorris told LittleThings. “But, I keep it in perspective and know that so many people have it way worse. I know she will thrive beyond our wildest dreams. I can’t wait to see what her future holds.”
