Watching Carrie Underwood perform on American Idol, it was clear the show had found a star.

From her audition alone, where she performed Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” Underwood’s star power was evident. Of course, her sweet charm didn’t hurt either.

Simon Cowell, one of the toughest judges around, even predicted that she’d win the competition and go on to “sell more records than any other previous Idol winners.” And he was certainly right — the Oklahoma native has done so with over 20 million sold, according to The Wall Street Journal. (Not too shabby for the farm girl who said she had never traveled on an airplane prior to her time on American Idol in 2005.)

Below, we see the moment she took the stage for a rendition of Shania Twain’s 1997 hit “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” and Ms. Underwood blew it out of the park. (Just wait til you hear her passionately belt that famous line at the 1:28 mark — go Carrie!)

“Country pop is your element,” guest judge and legendary record producer Clive Davis told her. “It just radiates from you, not only in your voice, but in your face, in your body. You really nailed it!”
