They say everything is bigger in Texas, but in the case of the “Cactus Cuties,” it’s obvious that some of their best exports come in tiny packages!

When Terri Caldwell opened The Cactus Theater in Lubbock, TX with her husband in 1994, she wanted to enhance their local music scene and encourage a younger generation to sing out loud. Terri was so dedicated, she even founded her own vocal academy and passed the singing bug on to her daughter, Cami. After Cami began teaching at Terri Caldwell Music, her mom encouraged her to start a youth performance group and, in 2001, the Cactus Cuties were born!

The original members were especially tiny, ranging from ages four to seven, but over the years many members came and went until they had a solid core group of talented girls in the late 2000s. You may have seen the Cactus Cuties before, when they sang a patriotic hymnal from the Civil War, but their best-known performance is when the group of girls, ages 8–13, performed our National Anthem at a college basketball game in Texas back in 2008.

I haven’t been so delighted by The Star Spangled Banner since this performance by 11-year-old Lexi Walker went viral earlier this year!
