For three decades, Kathy Babcock has been fighting fires and saving lives. A firefighter and paramedic in the Pasco County fire department of Land-O-Lakes, FL, Kathy is a beloved member of her crew and community. Now, it’s she who is fighting her own survival. After being diagnosed with breast cancer this year, Kathy is now going through chemotherapy. Next, she’ll be undergoing hormonal reduction injections, a bilateral mastectomy and radiation.

Recently, every single fire station in Pasco County banded together to show their unwavering support for Kathy, and hopefully make her smile. Their “Operation Make Kathy Smile” video happens to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness. It starts off in a lighthearted, playful way — just watch these manly men show off their moves to Bruno Mars’ hit song “Uptown Funk.” I can only imagine how Kathy reacted seeing her fellow firefighters breaking it down like this! But halfway through the video, the crew decides to switch up their approach in favor of something much more heartfelt. You really have to see it for yourself…

Kathy broke down in tears when her wonderful department surprises her with the video, plus a room full of flowers, balloons and well wishes. They’re heroes on and off-duty, that’s for sure.
