Yakutsk is the capital of the Sakha Republic of Russia, located 450 km south of the Arctic Circle. Thanks to its mining industry, Yakutsk is one of Russia’s fastest-growing regional cities, with a population of 355,443 according to the 2021 census.

It is one of the coldest cities in the world, where winter temperatures rarely exceed -20 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded in Yakutsk was -64.4 degrees Celsius.
