It was a sight to be seen for Philadelphia transit goers. Many believed it to be a bit of a Christmas miracle to witness such a sight. While aboard the train, a pregnant woman, all of a sudden began to holler, “My water broke, my water broke!” The conductor stopped the train, but the baby boy was ready to be delivered. That’s when two transit officers, Sgt. Daniel Caban and Officer Darrell James, were called to deliver the boy.
Although they’re not exactly nurses, police have a long history of helping mother’s in labor. Just take a look at how well this baby who was born in a police parking lot is doing. Darrell, who is a father to three and expecting a fourth, had enough experience in this department to deliver the baby. “I have three kids, my wife is pregnant again so it was just get in there and help,” Darrell said. You can see the officers rush to the mother and labor, then carefully bundle up the newborn — all of it captured on the transit surveillance cameras.
“I had already opened all my presents. I didn’t know I had another one waiting for me around 5:53 this afternoon,” Daniel told WPVI. Watch the heart-stopping footage below.
