Fred Rogers — better known as Mr. Rogers to the vast majority of us — was one awesome man who tirelessly promoted love, friendship, tolerance, and acceptance on his long-running PBS series Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. The beloved TV icon accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 24th Annual Emmys in 1997, and his speech is nothing short of amazing.

Humble as ever, Rogers takes a moment to encourage everyone in the audience to think of those that loved them, inspired them, and helped them become successful. “All of us have special ones who have loved us into being,” he said before asking the audience to join him in a very special moment. It was moving, it was powerful, it was tear-jerking, and it was beautiful. When was the last time you took 10 seconds of silence to think of people who have helped you?

Rogers’ speech received a standing ovation… He really was a great neighbor, wasn’t he? PleaseSHARE this speech with someone who has made a difference in your life!
