Apprehending a criminal has never been so cute.

The K9 you’re about to meet was just 14-weeks-old in the video below, posted on YouTube in June 2014. With the help of trainer CHP officer Paul Budrow, the officer-in-training named Ace takes on the highly esteemed challenge of bringing down a criminal in this mock training scenario.

love how seriously Ace is taking his training. The second he leaps out of the police car and bounces after the criminal, I couldn’t help but let out a big, “AWWWW!” Sorry Ace, but even the tough grip you’ve got on the bad guy’s sleeve is cute. It’s so cool watching K9s learn the ropes!

He may have been tiny and adorable then, but you can bet Ace is one fierce officer these days. All grown up, he currently works as a PSD with the Simi Valley Police department.

K-9s are specifically trained to assist police and other law-enforcement personnel in their work, such as searching for drugs and explosives, searching for lost people, looking for crime scene evidence, and protecting their handlers. Police dogs must remember several hand and verbal commands. The most commonly used breed is the German Shepherd.
